Our personal stories

At Healthy Minds & Bodies Bay City-MI, our mission to promote a culture of wellness in Bay City starts with our dedicated committee members. These are the personal stories that fuel our passion and drive us to encourage physical activity, mental health awareness, and community connection for a stronger Bay City. Read on and discover why healthy minds and bodies are so important to us.

Avram has been quietly shaping Bay City’s cultural landscape for years as an artist, photographer, entrepreneur, and community advocate. He sees opportunity where others see “the way it’s always been,” creating spaces that bring people together—like the 1st Thursday Gallery Walk, Raise a Flag civic art program, and The Third Street Star Bridge.

Through The Jefferson Project, Avram has helped launch markets, public art installations, and community spaces that inspire connection, creativity, and belonging. He believes deeply in “third spaces”—places outside home and work where people can grow, interact, and learn.

We’re grateful for Avram’s creativity and vision and excited to have him on the HMHB committee. ✨

She calls it “Leveling Up!”—and that’s the energy Jocelyn brings to Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies. A Licensed Massage Therapist since 2012, she has seen the mind–body connection come alive every day, helping clients transform pain into relief, stress into awareness, and discouragement into hope.

"Self-care isn’t selfish—it starts within." Jocelyn’s personal journey with movement, mindfulness, and resilience inspires others to reconnect with themselves. We’re grateful she’s choosing to level up with HMHB and lead our community toward wellness in 2026.

Gina’s journey is rooted in healing, reflection, and a desire to serve others. After moving to Bay City in 2021, she launched Unity Through Diversity and later founded the nonprofit United We Go, creating community events that center wellness, creativity, and meaningful connection. From mural festivals to youth programs, her work offers spaces for people to explore, grow, and be seen.

As a mother to mixed-race children, Gina is committed to shaping a stronger, more inclusive future. She believes in leading through trust, clarity, and collaboration—offering support where she can make the greatest impact. Gina’s dedication to mind–body wellness and community building aligns beautifully with HMHB’s mission, reminding us that when we share our journeys, entire communities grow stronger.

Discipline, growth, and purpose define how Rebekah shows up. An athlete since childhood and a former Michigan State University gymnast, she has transformed her passion for movement into a lifelong commitment to health, wellness, and education.

Through bodybuilding, fit camps, and nutrition, Rebekah discovered the power of consistency, self-care, and leading by example. She brings real-world experience in event planning, community engagement, and outreach—always with energy, heart, and a willingness to inspire others. Rebekah is proof that when you find your “why,” everything changes—and when you lead with purpose, others follow.

Rob shows up fully as himself—and that authenticity is exactly what makes him a powerful part of HMHB. As Aquatics Director at the YMCA, former massage therapist, coach, and natural healer, he helps people move, heal, and step outside their comfort zones.

He believes healing happens in everyday spaces, through connection, support, and seeing people as they are. Rob leads with heart, empathy, and compassion—whether guiding staff, community members, or participants—and brings energy, humor, and creativity to everything he does. We’re grateful to have him on the HMHB committee. 🌊

Strength, resilience, and unwavering positivity define Sue. A retired dental hygienist and longtime community leader, she embodies the mind–body connection—showing how movement, focus, and determination can carry you through life’s hardest challenges, including her battle with breast cancer.

Sue leads by example, valuing action, connection, and clear communication, and brings decades of experience, energy, and heart to HMHB. We’re grateful for her presence and the inspiration she shares every day. ✨

Dr. Stena proves there’s always another way to feel better. A chiropractor and nutritionist, she helps people uncover root causes of imbalance—focusing on gut health, mindful habits, and the mind–body connection—to support energy, mood, and overall wellness.

"When gut health improves, everything improves." With curiosity, compassion, and a holistic perspective, Dr. Stena brings education, community, and empowerment to everyone she works with. We’re grateful for the insight and energy she brings to HMHB.

At 60, Kelly proves that commitment to health has no expiration date. A mom, grandmother, and longtime professional, she prioritizes movement and wellness every day—whether walking 20,000 steps, strength training, or attending boot camp.

"Wellness isn’t about extremes—it’s about showing up, again and again, with intention." Kelly’s focus on consistency, balance, and mentorship inspires everyone around her. We’re grateful for the wisdom and energy she brings to the HMHB committee.
